Kia Orana!
Some places capture your heart the moment you arrive. For me, Aitutaki has always been that place.
My name is Cheran Kimiora, and although I was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand, my family’s roots have always been here in the Cook Islands. Returning home in 2018 was more than just a move—it was the beginning of a new chapter. It gave my parents and me the opportunity to reconnect with our heritage, embrace the slower rhythm of island life, and share this incredible corner of the world with visitors through Tai Roto Bay Beach Villas.
Growing up, I was fortunate to be surrounded by Cook Islands culture, traditions, language, and the strong family values that continue to shape who I am today. Those values are at the heart of everything we do at Tai Roto Bay and are reflected in the way we welcome every guest who stays with us.
Since returning home, Aitutaki has become much more than simply the place where I live. It is where I feel most connected to my family, my culture, and the incredible community that makes this island so special.
There is a feeling here that’s difficult to describe until you’ve experienced it for yourself. The lagoon sparkles in shades of turquoise that seem almost unreal, the sunsets never disappoint, and life naturally slows down. More than anything, it’s the kindness of our people that leaves the biggest impression. Visitors often arrive as guests but leave feeling like they’ve found a second home.

One of the greatest joys of owning Tai Roto Bay Beach Villas is sharing the Aitutaki that locals know and love. Beyond the postcard-perfect lagoon, there is a rich culture, genuine hospitality, and a close-knit community that I’m proud to introduce to our guests. Whether it’s recommending a favourite lagoon cruise, sharing a hidden beach, I love helping visitors experience the island in a way that feels authentic and personal.
What I love most about Aitutaki is its simplicity.
Life here isn’t rushed. Mornings begin with the gentle sound of the ocean and a fresh tropical breeze. Days are spent kayaking across the lagoon, cycling quiet island roads, discovering local cafés, or simply relaxing beneath the palms with a good book. As the sun begins to set, the sky transforms into brilliant shades of orange, pink, and gold a reminder that some of life’s greatest moments are also its simplest.
At Tai Roto Bay, we hope to offer more than just a place to stay. We want every guest to experience the genuine Cook Islands hospitality that has been passed down through generations, to slow down, reconnect with what matters most, and leave with memories that stay with them long after they’ve returned home.
I feel incredibly proud of my Cook Islands heritage and deeply grateful to call Aitutaki home. It is a privilege to welcome guests from all over the world and share this beautiful island that means so much to me and my family.
Thank you for letting us be part of your Cook Islands journey. We can’t wait to welcome you to the Tai Roto Bay family.
